The Y makes strengthening our communities our cause. We count on the generosity of our donors to help us nurture life lessons in kids, foster health and well-being among people of any age, bring people together to pursue passions old and new and provide mutual support for everyone in our neighborhoods.

Center of Hope

The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA is the center of hope in southeastern San Diego.

In San Diego's most critical neighborhoods, the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA provides a safe haven for kids and families.

Our Reality

  • 52 documented gangs
  • Higher high school drop out rates
  • Half of all juvenile system are referrals into programming
  • Higher unemployment rates
  • Higher family poverty levels in our surrounding community
In spite of the challenges, our community has energy and ambition. Leadership is in place and determined to give our kids opportunities to succeed.

The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA becomes the place to which leaders are developed and our programming allows our youth and community a place to learn and grow.

Our Commitment

While 68% of the households in our community earn below median income, no one is turned away due to inability to pay.

Each year we touch the lives of more than 25,000 kids and families. But there are 270,000 residents in our service area. Increasing our capacity to serve is critical.

Our Future

We will expand from 25,000 square feet to 43,000 square feet in seven phases, allowing us to remain open during construction. Our new facility will contain everything you expect from a YMCA, but more...it will encompass the hopes and dreams of young and troubled neighborhood.
