Now that the dust has settled on the transformational renovations at the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA, on August 2 hundreds are expected to attend a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event that will certainly affirm we have changed our Y for good.
If you haven't been to our Y for awhile, it won't take long to see the changes.
Thanks to the generous contributions of so many individuals and groups over the years, we have always worked hard to insure the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA was the finest facility for kids and families in San Diego County's most critical community. Now, you will see a "newness" that will allow our Southeastern San Diego residents to be served in a manner that is equal to any YMCA in the country.
But the best is yet to come.
As you enter the newly remodeled Jackie Robinson Family YMCA be sure to take a moment to look back at the parking lot and imagine a new YMCA. To date, close to $8 million has been committed towards having our $16 million goal raised by January of 2013 and a ground breaking on April 15, 2013.
Everyday, I back my car into it's parking space as a reminder. What's in the rear view mirror facing our current facility is small compared to the big-picture, windshield view that's ahead for the future of the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA and how we will serve more kids and families.
Get ready for the joyful journey!
